Pro Tip Cult of Mac bugWhereas most websites these days — Cult of Mac included — are responsive to whatever device you’re browsing on, there are still a few websites out there that will serve you a special mobile version when you head there on your iPhone.

Unfortunately, sometimes the functionality of the full desktop version of the website is missing from the mobile version. When that happens, you can use the iOS 9 version of Safari to get the full desktop versions even when the web developers don’t provide a link to do so.

Here’s how.

Swipe left, tap the button. Boom.

First up, head to a website on your iPhone or iPad that’s running some version of iOS 9. Once it loads in Safari, tap on the sharing button at the bottom of your screen. You may need to swipe to the top of the web page (you can tap at the top of your iPhone screen to get there quickly) to make the navigation buttons appear at the bottom of your Safari screen.

Tap the Sharing button (the one that looks like a rectangle with an arrow pointing up and out of it) and then swipe to the left along the lower row of revealed options until you see the “Request Desktop Site” icon. Tap it.

If the site you’re at has the option, you’ll get the full web site as it would appear on your Mac – be aware that it might look super tiny and you’ll need to zoom in with a opposite pinching gesture to see some of the items on such pages. Also, if the web site you’re on doesn’t have a “desktop version,” you’ll be out of luck and you’ll just see the mobile site again.

At least now, though, you have an option in a convenient place to ask for what you want. Hoorah!
