They may not have done so well in India, but on Samsung’s home turf, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are doing gangbusters business. In South Korea, in fact, iPhone 6s preorders sold out within minutes of becoming available.

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus became available for preorder in South Korea on Friday through the country’s three major carriers — SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus — ahead of the handset’s debut on Friday.

Demand’s bananas. KT said preorders hit 10,000 units in the first minute alone, and 50,000 units within 10 minutes. “We’re getting an amazing response. We expected to take at least 30 minutes to sell the first 50,000. There was notably a huge demand for the rose gold,” an official at KT said.

SK Telekom also blew through its preorders in 30 minutes, although no official figures are available. Similarly, LG Uplus was forced to end preorders in five minutes.

Even worse? Samsung had to slash prices of the Galaxy S6 just to compete with the iPhone 6s. It’s now available for just 799,700 won (approximately $706), down from the previous price of 924,000 won.

If Samsung can’t win the smartphone war in its home country, how can it expect to win anywhere?
