Indie favorite Shovel Knight is getting a new, free update based on a popular bad guy from the first release.

Called Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows, the new expansion will include a whole new way to play in the Shovel Knight universe with new levels, music, art, and platforming. The villainous Plague Knight, master of alchemy, is the star of this new addition, which will come along with the original game, Shovel Knight, and as a free update to owners of the original game, which won over 70 Game of the Year awards in 2014.

Check out the video below to see all the chaos of this action-packed expansion.

The new content places you in the role of the Plague Knight as you try and help him overthrow the Order of No Quarter to become the ultimate alchemist. You’ll use explosives, bomb-jumps, and digital alchemy to blast yourself through the whole game, crafting equipment and power ups to help you through all the crazy levels.

Some of the expanded content will be new levels, while some of it will be classic Shovel Knight levels with new paths and solutions in a nod to the many fans of the original game ($14.99 on Steam). There’s even a Challenge Mode where you can do speed runs, rematch with bosses, and solve some tricky environmental puzzles along the way.

Developed by Yacht Club Games, Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows will be available soon for all the platforms you can think of, including Macintosh, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, Sony PS3, Sony PS4, Sony Vita, Xbox One, PC, and Linux.
