Instagram is great on the iPhone. It kind of sucks on the iPad. And it’s nonexistent on the Mac. But Photoflow aims to change the latter.

It’s a beautiful new Instagram client, just for the Mac. And while Photoflow won’t ever replace Instagram on your iPhone, it does supplement a lot of the app’s features for power users.

Available for just $5 on the Mac App Store, Photoflow gives you most of the features of the Instagram mobile site, plus a host more aimed at the kind of people who spend all day on Facebook’s photo social network.

Let’s get this out of the way. No, you can’t upload images to Instagram through Photoflow. Instagram’s API just doesn’t allow you to do this outside of the app. That’s a bummer, but it’s a constraint of Instagram’s own website, too.

Luckily, there’s a lot more to do on Instagram than just upload images. Unlike the official app, Photoflow supports multiple accounts and streams, allowing you to surf, comment and like images on both your personal and professional accounts (if you have one). You also get desktop notifications for likes, comments and new photos, a slick interface that works with trackpad gestures, and the ability to zoom into photos and videos.

It’s a pretty slick way to browse Instagram on your Mac. If you’re an Instagram power user, check it out. Just make sure you are running OS X Yosemite or higher.
