First iPad Shipments Arrive In Louisville, KY

The first shipments of iPads have arrived at the huge UPS facility in Louisville, KY, and will soon be heading to customers’ home towns.

The UPS shipping info for CoM’s iPad, which was ordered last month, says the iPad is undergoing “UPS internal activity” (whatever that is) in Kentucky. UPS ‘s all-points international air hub is based in Louisville.

We were surprised the iPad is already here. When we last checked the shipping info a couple of hours ago, the precious iPad was supposedly sitting in Shenzhen, China, where it was assembled.

Little did we know it was being airfreighted to the U.S. and would soon be rescanned into UPS’s system.

UPS system is unbearable, btw. The constant updates providing an incentive for obsessive checking and rechecking. I can’t wait until Saturday.

Yea mine too UPS INTERNAL ACTIVITY is usually just a large shipment at one time

  • Deborah

That’s what mine said yesterday—and then it said the status was exception??? Today, it’s back to looking like it’s in the process of shipping out of China. (Doesn’t matter—I’m using my office address and won’t receive it until Monday. Being Easter weekend is not helping…..)

  • Jellicoe

Or UPS INTERNAL ACTIVITY just means UPS did something and the iPads are no where to be seen….

  • Jellicoe

Shipping Exceptions are generally not good

  • Mike

I’m guessing the exception is the UPS can’t deliver them until the 3rd. Normally if a package was in Louisville today, I would have it tomorrow. I’m guessing UPS has agreed to hold them until the 3rd.

yeah, they are going through customs now

  • Dizzle

mine is already due in my local hub at 9am tomorrow. The question is whether or not they are going to hold on to it until the 3rd. The hub is right down the street from me!

  • Dean

The exception appears to be the clearance of an international shipment, and/or Apple placing a hold on their delivery so that the throng of Apple retail store customers get their iPads first on Saturday.

  • Alexis

guys…when you ship something you can determine the delivery date…and that is what Apple has done…they are NOT TO BE DELIVERED UNTIL THE 3RD…period

because if they screw this up…Apple will use FED EX next time…and UPS doesn’t want that

they are making a MINT off the iPad and there is no way UPS is going to mess up…so don’t expect it…I don’t care if you live next door to the center…ur not getting it until the 3rd or heads will roll

but have fun on Saturday…waiting by the door or on the front step hoping it gets there soon…sounds like torture to me…but at least you will have one…I will just get to sell the very few that my Best Buy will be getting and dreaming of when I can get one…

besides I have to do the over night to set everything up…and move the 27″ iMac, MBA and 17″MBP from the table to the Accessory Wall because the iPad is getting the entire side of the Apple table in Best Buy…and then I have to be back for the launch…with tickets to give to people outside the store…knowing I can’t have one…over it…lol…wish me luck

UPS Website still has mine in Shenzhen, China.

Using http://www.packagemapping.com last night it showed up directly in Winnemucca Nevada, having bypassed Louisville, KY completely, which is doubtful since no aircraft that could travel from China to the USA would have enough runway to stop in Winnemucca.

Today, http://www.packagemapping.com has my ipad in Guanghou, China, not too far from Shenzhen.

Also, to carry the obsession to the next step, http://www.Boxoh.com also shows the package in Guanghou,, however that city is located in a different location on the china map then what shows on http://www.packagemapping.com.

    Oh the pain

Alexis: “they are making a MINT off the iPad and there is no way UPS is going to mess up.” From his lips to God’s ear. I’ll believe they didn’t mess up when I get my iPad on time. But, for now, my iPad, ordered within 7 minutes of the “opening bell,” is still stuck in China with the following 2 notations: location: Shenzhen, CN, 03/30/2010 2:26 AM local time, origin scan; CN, 03/31/2010, 6:50 AM, billing information received. (If Apple had ever asked me, I would have told them going with FedEx was a no-brainer.)

  • Roy

Mine Showed Louivile then it showed it was at my local delivery center in Houston not far from my house so I know its here in houston. Then i check today and its saying it still in China.I know its here cause they had to have physically scan it to update to the web site.

  • Douglas

The info on mine has changed too. I used to work at ups so i understand how there system works, so when the times it arrives or leaves a place changes that is an obvious sign somebody has accessed the system and made deliberate info changes. So even though we could of all had them today we still have to wait…. and wait… and wait… lol The last days are the hardest

  • Garrett

You might want to call UPS! I just did and was told that a large batch did not clear US customs today and thus will be delayed by one business day. Mine will not be available until Monday. He told me the delay was due to improper customs forms filled out by Apple. He went on to state that many got cleared but a good quantity did not. Yes, I do have Saturday delivery and UPS confirmed this.
When calling Apple on this, the rep. just told me she had no more information than what UPS had on their website which is “In Transit” but no date. She told me I would have to wait until Monday and that since shipping was free, Apple could not do anything if they come late from UPS.
I was really planning to get to know my new iPad this weekend.

  • Mike

UPS is posting disinformation in order not to have to explain that they are sitting on the iPads so that none will be delivered prior to April 3rd. Your iPad should be loaded on a local truck in time for delivery on Saturday. The information on the website has nothing to do with anything, as far as UPS is concerned. UPS is answering to Apple on this, not the destination customer. UPS has promised Apple Saturday delivery. So unless a plane crashes tonight, or the truck is hijacked, your iPad will be delivered. If not, complain to Apple.
