iPad Order Confirmation Promises “Exciting” In-Store Event

Though a few early adopters have noted that the confirmation emails for pre-ordered iPads are slow, it looks like the in-store pick up option should be fun with some kind of launch fete in the works.

interesting about that cut off time. I would have thought they would do all day. then again, i’m sure they will tell stores to either run two lines or not drop reservations if there’s a chance one of them is still in line after 3pm.

the time is probably to encourage a big blow out press worthy morning everywhere.

Does anyone know when the 3g iPad will be available for pre-ordering for pickup?

They did the same thing with the reservations for the iPhone 3GS. You’re reservation was only good from 9 until 3. If they continue to follow the iPhone 3GS launch model – after launch day, you’ll be able to go online the night before, check availability at a local store, then reserve an iPad to pick up the next day in the same 9-3 timeframe. There’s no sense holding a product for someone who may or may not get their lazy butt in there to buy it, if you’ve got a customer in store who wants the product. I think the plan is very fair.

When I got my 3GS, I showed up around 11:30 am on launch day. There were about 30 people in the “no reservation” line and 2 people in the reservation line. I was out of there a little after noon with my 3GS.
