Apple Shows First iPad Ad During Oscars

Apple just premiered the very first iPad commercial during the first ad break of tonight’s Academy Awards. It was very good, just a rock song and demoing every imaginable feature while continually rotating from portrait to landscape. We’ll post as soon as Apple or Youtube does. Embed from Engadget now in post. Real Apple version here.

Thanks for the finds, Mitchell and Paolo!

Edit: And CNET caught Steve Jobs on the red carpet.

    I missed it… (couldn’t care less about celebs and award shows) but this wasn’t the commercial for the mystery product filmed in the diner back in October… was it?

    Great ad. Flashed by, can’t wait for the link to see it again. Best thing about Academy Awards so far is the iPad ad.

    i’m actually a little surprised that they didn’t try to tie into the whole movie thing since it’s the Oscars.

  • PMoe

    There’s an App for that…

    I have been looking very closely at the new iPad ad that aired during the Academy Awards. I noticed that when the iPad is unlocked at the beginning of the ad, there is a button that has not been shown before. It is to the right of the “slide to unlock” function.

    @Ethan – it’s the ‘picture slideshow’ button.

    Almost at the end of the commercial, their is a view of the iBook Store in which there appears to be a NY Times logo embedded right next to the regular store icons… check it out @ 00:26 and again @ 00:27… Also, if you look closely, prices for books range from $7.99-$14.99.

    Funny that when you play it the ad by Google is for a blackberry. Props to the marketing group at RIM.

    @ kell. It is The Blue Van with the song “There Goes My Love”.
