As a key driver in Bluetooth-related innovation, Apple has today been announced as a new promoter member of the Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest Group.)
Giving Apple voting rights on Bluetooth SIG corporate matters, as well as a continual seat on the SIG Board of Directors, Apple joins current promoter members Ericsson, Intel, Lenovo, Microsoft, Nokia, and Toshiba.
It’s about time, too!
“Apple has long been a key participant in the Bluetooth ecosystem,” said Toby Nixon, chairman of the Bluetooth SIG Board of Directors. “Since 2011, the company has provided guidance and knowledge to the Bluetooth SIG through its participation as an Associate Board Member. We’re excited to welcome Apple to its new role in the organization and on the SIG board.”
Bluetooth is used by a number of Apple products — including the Mac, iPhone, Apple Watch and others. By making Apple a Bluetooth SIG board member, it gives the company considerable influence over the technology’s roadmap going forwards — something particularly important as Apple continues to expand its presence in the wearables space.
