Spotlight can do a lot of things, but did you know that it can search hashtags on Twitter?

The feature, which many are just now discovering, could be only the beginning of how Apple and Twitter will work together in the future.

Apple made a big deal out of all the data Spotlight can search with the launch of iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite, from movie listings to the App Store and Wikipedia entries.

Spotlight functionality that Apple isn’t currently highlighting on its website is the ability to search for hashtags. BuzzFeed News and others started noticing the integration today. Searching for hashtags doesn’t appear to work on all Apple devices yet, as some Cult of Mac staffers haven’t been able to use the feature yet.

During Twitter’s last earnings call, CEO Dick Costolo hinted at working with Apple to do more Spotlight integration. “And finally, we are also working with Apple to surface great Twitter content and accounts directly in Spotlight Search on iOS and OS X,” he said. “That also makes it easier and quicker to find great things on Twitter.”

Whether Costolo was referring to searching for hashtags or additional integration down the road is unclear. But it’s evident that Apple is comfortable in continuing to work closely with Twitter.
