First Look: Cruise Ship iLounge Apple Reseller

First Look: Cruise Ship iLounge Apple Reseller

Apple style on the high seas? @Image courtesy Celebrity Cruises

So the architecture isn’t spectacular like some bucket-list worthy Apple stores, but the iLounge looks like a good excuse to check your email or harass expert staff about flash cookies while on vacation.

This is a rendered first look at what will be rolling out on Celebrity Cruises fleet launching in April: funky retro carpet, comfy armchairs and workstations with bar stools and more comfortable-looking work benches.

This new seafaring iLounge is an Authorized Apple Reseller where cruisers can check out the latest MacBooks, iPods and accessories. (No word on whether it will also have iPad, yet). It also has a classroom plus an “enrichment center” where trained staff offers tips.

Interesting concept but who wants to buy a computer when on a cruise?

Not at the level of ‘museum experience’ of a typical Apple store, but still very nice. Btw, checking your email will not be free.

I blogged why I love the iLounge idea – win for cruise consumers and for Celebrity IMHO: http://meetoncruise.com/blog/why-we-love-the-ilounge-idea

BTW, while this iLounge cruise thing might seem neat… it takes a backseat to those old Apple Macintosh online cruise themed conferences that were done a few years ago. I know, I wanted to sign up for one. Many cruises have “themes” like Disnet or kiddie themes. But the first time I heard of those “Macintosh” themed cruises, I was floored. They had a handful of Mac celebrities like Andy Inahtko and David Pogue if I recall. Basically an Apple fan’s dream cruise. That was back years ago. I don’t think they’ve had any in the past few years.
