This year’s Worldwide Developers Conference will kick off June 8 at San Francisco’s Moscone West, Apple said today. The five-day event will provide an early glimpse at the future of iOS and OS X, plus more developer sessions than ever before.
WWDC is one of Apple’s biggest events of the year. It covers all things software, and this year’s event — Apple’s 26th — will focus on iOS 9, Apple’s next update to OS X, and likely updates to the Apple Watch platform as well.
“WWDC will feature more than 100 technical sessions, over 1,000 Apple engineers, hands-on labs to help developers integrate new technologies and fine tune their apps, as well as the Apple Design Awards which showcase the best new apps in the last year,” Apple teases in its press release announcing the event. This year’s WWDC tagline is “the epicenter of change.”
Just like last year, WWDC tickets will be issued to attendees through a random selection process. Apple is accepting applications until Friday, April 17, at 10 a.m. Pacific, and developers will find out whether they’ve been chosen by April 20 at 5 p.m. Pacific.
Apple will also offer 350 WWDC Scholarships for students and members of participating STEM organizations around the world. If you’d like to apply for one of these, you can do so via the WWDC scholarships webpage.
Don’t worry if you don’t get a ticket or can’t make it to San Francisco, however; many of Apple’s sessions will be live-streamed throughout the week via the WWDC website, giving developers an opportunity to watch in real time wherever they may be.
Apple is also expected to live-stream its keynote, so you’ll be able to watch the company’s first previews of iOS 9 and OS X as well.
