If you’ve ever dreamed of using an Xbox One controller to play games on your Mac, today is your lucky day — thanks to a new application which recently appeared on GitHub.

Created by user Guilherme Araújo, all you have have to do to use the controller is to open his code in Xcode and run it.

Happy gaming!

“The USB communication is done using Apple’s IOKit framework,” Araújo explains. “The controller is polled every 5 ms looking for changes in the controller.”

While currently there are a few bugs — meaning that certain games won’t work with the controller,  Araújo has said he will continue to add improvements — such as support for additional controllers, automatic connection, and other bells and whistles — as long as he has time available to dedicate to the project.

“This is an ongoing project that will eventually be promoted from its current beta stage to a final version,” he notes, adding that, “Usability and compatibility are the main goals for now.”

This is far from the first time that video game controllers have been available for Mac owners to use. Check out our previous stories on tweaks to let you use both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 controllers.
