Pocket for iOS 8 adds faster way to read stuff later

Apple might have tried to kill read-it-later services by adding Reading List to Safari, but iOS 8’s new Extensibility feature is bringing new life to bookmarking services like Pocket, which said today that its updated app will make it faster than ever to save everything to Pocket.

The iOS 8-friendly Pocket 5.6 update will allow users to save content to Pocket directly from favorite apps like Medium, Tumblr, NPR, BuzzFeed and others that previously weren’t able to save items to Pocket.

iOS 8 users will be able to save directly in Safari and share content in Pocket to any app with its new Share Extension. Once the Pocket Share Option has been enabled, the Pocket icon will be included in iOS’ native sharing menu, allowing you to save pages in just two taps.

To help organize your content the update adds the ability to tag content immediately anytime you save an item to your list by tapping the tag icon after a Save confirmation has appeared on your screen. The update also features Handoff integration that lets you move from one Apple device to another without losing your reading spot.

The free Pocket 5.6 will be available on the App Store Wednesday, September 17, with the release of iOS 8.
