I love the latest Horseman laptop bag from Crumpler.

The best thing about Crumpler’s Horseman Bag is its size, which I think is optimum for a messenger/laptop bag. I have owned messenger bags that are too big, really just a huge cavernous void for your stuff to rattle and roll around in.

The other end of the spectrum are bags that are too small, which I personally think look a little on the feminine side on a fully-grown man. Not The Horseman though.

Note: It’s Bag Week on CultofMac.com. We’re checking out some of the latest and greatest bags on the market. Read all the bag reviews here.

This bag can carry my MacBook to work with enough room for things like my rain jacket, lunch & water bottle in the main compartment, work papers and binders in the front section and all of my gadgets such as cell phone, camera etc. in the many compartments and pockets.

There is also a pocket on the bag’s main flap which is handy enough for loose items such as keys, gum etc. The problem is when you open the bag, if the zipper is unzipped, the contents tend to fall out of the pocket. (Note to self….always fasten flap pocket zipper).

Boasting a water-resistant shell and Ripstop lining, fully-padded laptop compartment AND main compartment, the bag is practically bombproof — as lovers of Crumpler bags have come to expect.

As well as the MacBook compartment, the bag also contains one large main compartment with two velcro-sealed pockets and a front-zippered compartment containing a six pocket organizer and yet another zippered pocket!!

The enormous (almost too enormous) main strap features Quick Flick TM buckle, an adjustable/removable shoulder pad, a third leg stability strap and velcro release straps.

The bag comes in a choice of colors – Navy blue, brown, green, black or red. Bizarrely, the price varies with color – black, brown and green are $195, red or navy are $136.50.

I personally prefer the red, black and blue, the green is a little TOO bright in my opinion. Of course, the fluorescent green color is much more visible at night than the black if safety is one of your concerns.

On that note, all of the bags have a bright, fluorescent interior color which makes it easier to find things you are looking for, especially in a bad light.

To summarize, here at CultofMac.com, we have come to expect sturdy, well-made bags from Crumpler and this bag doesn’t disappoint. I shall be using this bag for many moons to come , so long as I don’t get knocked off of my mountain bike any time soon due to choosing the black exterior version.
