Baldur’s Gate is one of the all-time classic RPGs, and while it’s iOS Enhanced Edition has been available on iPad since late 2012, up until now iPhone gamers have been left out in the cold.

That’s changed thanks to a new update which adds iPhone support, meaning that we can finally play this epic fantasy game on the move.

But wait, you might say, Baldur’s Gate was already a challenging read on the iPad mini. How on earth is it possible to play on an iPhone? Well, developers Bioware have thought of that too, since they’ve added a new “Font Size” option, which makes the game easier to view on smaller iOS devices.

In addition, there are plenty of hundreds of minor gameplay improvements, such as the fact that spell scrolls that can be written into a spellbook for the current character now display a green-tinted overlay, and that Drizzt is now properly equipped with his scimitars, while his character has been recolored to match his description in the books.

If all of that sounds like nonsense to you, I’ll assume you haven’t yet had the pleasure of diving into the incredibly deep world of Baldur’s Gate, which takes the classic Advanced Dungeons and Dragons ruleset and transforms it into an eighty-hour role playing adventure campaign.

I can’t say enough good things here, so you’ll have to go and download it yourself from the App Store to truly find out why gamers rate this title so highly.

Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition will set you back $9.99 on the iTunes Store, available for all (!) iOS devices running iOS 5.1 and later.
