Are New MacBook Pros Imminent?

Will Apple unveil a new line of MacBook Pros today? Some signs point to the possibility the Cupertino, Calif. may announce new laptops with faster chips to coincide with this week’s Macworld Expo 2010.

The first tea leaf isa French gadget blog which quotes an anonymous source. The source “who works for Apple just tell me that the new MacBook Pro line will be launched tomorrow,” according to blogger Steve Hemmerstoffer. The MacBook Pro, which has not seen a major change since last June, could receive faster Intel chips.

Although Apple no longer has a presence at Macworld, some see an announcement during the time the San Francisco gathering, as possible, pointing to the 2009 Web introduction of the 27-inch iMacs.

Another possible clue comes from an anonymous Best Buy employee which told the Mac Rumors blog, current MacBook Pros are no longer available in their inventory system. A third clue to a MacBook Pro update is a report of an unknown MacBook Pro “6.1’ discovered running a 2.66GHz Intel i7 M 620 chip.

Until Apple makes it official, the Mac community will continue to read tea leaves on the future of the MacBook Pro line.

Stores were down earlier but then went back online only with Aparture having been updated.

    …and the site’s down

    *oh*

I sure hope this is not apple’s answer. Check out the benchmarks on the M620…the current macbook pro offerings are much better. If apple wants to compete with even dell’s newest line of studio xps laptops, they will need to offer the 720QM and 820QM. Here are the benchmarks: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php

I want a Core iWhatEver MacBook & I want it NOW.

  • craig

The ‘New’ tag next to the latest Macbook and iMac has been removed. Suggestive of other ‘New’ products on the way?

  • Luke

Astute observation “craig”, I came here to point out the same thing.

  • geoff

I guess those “anonymous” sources were just figments of someone’s overactive apple imagination.

    There’s always next tuesday.

    @ craig & luke.

the *new* could have been taken down simply because the products have been out for a while. they are no longer new. perhaps apple figured on waiting to remove the labels until they took the site down for other updates.

but I’m with you. I’m dying for an MBP update because I NEED one.

i’m keeping my fingers crossed that Jobs didn’t want to be perceived as trying to steal MacWorld’s thunder and is waiting until tomorrow to make the announcement. :)

So would you guys recommend that I wait for a new MacBook to appear or buy one now? If it’s a matter a weeks untill it comes out I can wait but I can’t wait that long.kinda need to soon. ??

I don’t think they will. Look at the screen shots of the new apeture on the regular MacBook Pro. Plus they took the “new” sign of the iMacs and Mac mini. It’s not like apple to release images of new products on old machines. We may have to get used to the old Mac Book Pro’s for a little while longer.

Yeh true. I just rang my local apple store and they said that they don’t find out untill a day before the release date, so that doesn’t really help. I think I’m just going to buy a MacBook pro and I’ll just have to sell it when they bring out new ones. :D

  • .::TAYLORMAC::.

Oh I forgot, I rang JB HI-FIVE and I asked them if they or any in stock and they said they only have 6 left in stock and he checked the of he had any on order and he said that he had none on order and he said that last time that happened was when they brought out a new product. So that sounds promising. :S

I just bought a 2.8 C2D from my local applestore. I have 4 days left on the 14 day return policy. If these come out within this time, any ideas as to how to avoid the restocking fee?

  • goosesensor

I bought a 2.8 C2D almost two weeks ago, knowing that updates were soon to come. With recent excitement (benchmarks + BestBuy) I caved and returned it last night. Good thing is the rep. forgot to add the 10% restocking fee. :)
