A slew of reports and leaked pictures have suggested that Apple could ship a new Lightning cable with reversible USB connector in the iPhone 6’s packaging. That’s not happening, according to venerable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Kuo, who is rarely off the mark with his Apple predictions, has said that a new charging cable won’t debut this month due to “cost concerns” and “limited improvements to overall user experience.”
In a note to investors obtained by AppleInsider, Kuo dispelled recent rumors that Apple is prepping a new cable for this year’s iPhone. Although Apple could introduce a new cable right now, Kuo thinks it would cost the company too much to manufacture given the newness of the reversible USB design.
Moca, a third-party accessories maker, previously reported that reversible USB would not be included in the iPhone 6’s Lightning cable. The Hong Kong-based studio does, however, believe that a tweaked charger could be in the cards for supplying more power to larger iPhones.
