Ridge Racer Slipstream is one of the best racing games available on iOS.

Ports of popular console and arcade game series can be hit-and-miss on iOS, but Namco Bandai’s Ridge Racer Slipstream definitely falls into the “hit” category.

An iOS game which pulls together a lot of the best vehicles and tracks from previous Ridge Racer games, Ridge Racer Slipstream has just been updated for the first time since March adding two brand new race tracks, four new Class 1 vehicles (including the Kamata Synci, Kamata RC410, and Lucky Wild Evolver), Masters’ Class career content, and support for MFi game controllers.

Best of all, the game’s currently available to download for free from the App Store. As iOS gaming website Touch Arcade points out, there are still some freemium aspects to gameplay, but none that make the game unplayable for anyone who doesn’t want to splash the cash, since everything is unlockable for free.

While there’s hardly a shortage of great games available for iOS here in 2014, if you’re looking for an authentic racer that plays like the Ridge Racer games proper, you really can’t go wrong with this. The multiplayer mode (added back in March) is also a whole lot of fun.

Ridge Racer Slipstream is available for free download from the App Store for iOS devices running iOS 7.0 and above.
