Your fave apps will soon hail an Uber for you

Today Uber announced its official API, which means you’re going to start seeing a lot of apps integrating with the popular ride-summoning service.

“As of today, we officially open—to all developers—access to many of the primitives that power Uber’s magical experience,” said the company in an announcement post. “Apps can pass a destination address to the Uber app, display pickup times, provide fare estimates, access trip history and more.”

Uber is tightly controlling which apps get the ability to actually request a ride using the service at first. Like Apple’s Siri, only a few partners will be able to let users request rides for awhile.

The list of Uber’s launch partners: Expensify, Hinge, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, Momento, OpenTable, Starbucks Coffee Company, Tempo Smart Calendar, Time Out, TripAdvisor, TripCase and United Airlines.

When you make restaurant reservations in OpenTable, the app will be able to hail an Uber car for you and automatically tell the driver where you’re going. Need a ride from the airport? United’s app will show you nearby cars, fares, etc.

Look for Uber integration in your favorite apps over the next few weeks. Lyft and Uber have been duking it out lately with new feature additions and ride sabotages, but the announcement of this API just put Uber at the forefront of the race.
