New version of Vesper now lets you see more info about your notes

Vesper, the note-taking app developed in part by John Gruber of Daring Fireball, has been updated with a cool new feature that allows you to easily see the timestamp, character, or word count for a Vesper note… without adding a lot of on-screen clutter.

Here’s how it works. When you’re viewing a note in Vesper, all you need to do is tap at the bottom of the screen to see when it was created. Keep tapping, and you’ll see the modified date, the character count, and the word count, before a final tap clears the bar.

Seems like a pretty good approach. Gruber says this about the feature:

I really like how this feature turned out. These were all oft-requested features — some people were asking for modified/creation dates, some for word count, some wanted both — but I was reluctant to add them, because it seemed like it would add a lot of visual clutter to include all these things, and didn’t seem right to add just one of them. Using one status field for all these fields, and allowing it to be blank, feels just right. It’s all there when you want it, but there’s no additional visual clutter when you don’t.

In addition to the new information bar, Vesper also now features faster photo syncing, thanks to prioritizing low-resolution versions of photos before high-res copies. There is also, of course, the usual gaggle of bug fixes.

Vesper can be purchased for $2.99 from the iOS App Store here.
