Apple has dropped a new version of its iTunes app, solving a continuing problem for podcast listeners where subscribed podcasts stop updating with new episodes.
The iTunes version 11.3.1 refresh also fixes another podcast related issue, which saw iTunes become unresponsive while browsing through different podcast episodes.
The overhaul is part of a recent focus on podcasts on the part of Apple. Recently the company acquired Swell, a podcast recommender system that compiles different podcasts into personalized streams, for $30 million.
The new iTunes update follows on from iTunes 11.3, which added support for the new iTunes Extras feature — allowing users to gain access to DVD-style extras including behind-the-scenes documentaries, director commentaries, deleted scenes, and other bonus footage.
Apple is currently working on a redesigned iTunes 12, which will debut with OS X Yosemite, adding a clean redesign for the iTunes UI, focused on de-chromifying a lot of the interface elements and introducing new icons.
