Just because people are expecting Apple to revolutionize wearables with its long-awaited iWatch, doesn’t mean that there aren’t already some interesting developments going on in the wearable tech field.

I’m a massive fan of Jawbone, which has just updated its UP by Jawbone iOS app with a new fitness-oriented update — designed to focus on food-related goals, such as weight and calorie intake.

With that in mind, there’s a new weight management feature which allows you to set goals with regards to weight, and then track this progress by way of straightforward tools for logging food, weight and calorie balance.

There’s also a redesigned food experience, which streamlines the logging process with brand new tools included a dedicated water logger, restaurant menus, common pairings and frequent meals.

Finally there’s a new “food score” function, which is an easy metric to quickly indicate the healthiness of particular dishes with one simple number.

Jawbone is one of the leaders in the quantified health/fitness-tracking field, and this app update makes what was already a good app even better — whether you’re looking to lose or monitor weight as part of a healthy diet, or gain weight/tone up for athletic purposes.

UP by Jawbone can be downloaded from the App Store for all iOS devices running iOS 6.0 and above. The app itself is free, although a Jawbone UP or UP24 wristband is required to use it.
