Stephen Colbert Whips Out iPad at Grammys

You can tell Jay-Z is disappointed he doesn’t have one. And then he remembers he has his own brand of vodka and millions of dollars.

    Colbert is the king of comedy.
    He is so much better than Stewart.

    Only people living in high crime areas will probably wear it inside their specially made jacket to protect themselves against bullets and knives.

    I live in low crime New Zealand where we do not even have thee fancy jackets and bow ties.

  • Webbs

    @Rory Parker
    I agree, but in terms of interview skills and actual reporting, Stewart is the winner.

    LMAO. Colbert 4thepwn!

    Seriously tho… is that a REAL iPad pre-release model? How does he get one only a few days after Steve jons introduces it? Two possibilities here:

    1) Apple loaned him a pre-release (working) model, because it’s brilliant free advertising for the product

    or

    2) Colbert has a fake iPad (look-alike) from one of the many Chinese companies infamous for knock-offs, cheap fakes and counterfeits

    But even if it was a fake, it looked convincing enough for the entire audience, and has suddenly raised the coolness factor of a not-yet-shipping Apple product.

    Amazing! Clicked on the link provided by BetaCloud… and it said the exact opposite of what happened, according to the YouTube (unless that was edited)

    As LifeLineLive rewrites it: ‘To his daughter in the crowd, he said, “Am I cool now?” She nodded yes.’

    NO, SHE DIDN’T

    Not only making fun of the iPad (and who isn’t?) but demonstrating that the iPad is NOT cool

    (Apple may wish they hadn’t loaned or gave him the thing)

    Apple and Colbert go back quite some time. But apparently iFanBoy is clueless about this.

    Apple has had an amicable and sporty relationship with Colbert for a while now. On his show, he often asks Apple for a freebie of their latest devices. This is not the first time Apple answered in kind. Regardless, Colbert is a comedian and pundit, and his show is about parody. Even when he pokes fun of Apple, it’s all tongue in cheek, and he never slams or criticizes Apple (or Apple products) with the vicious, nasty, inane vitriol that the Apple-haters are known for.

    In the end, Apple gets free publicity with Colbert, they just have to tolerate an occasional silly joke or harmless satire (meant for laughs, which is how his comedic show earns ratings). Apple is a good sport about it, and they are able to take a ribbing from Colbert every now and then.

  • Rory Parker

    @Webbs, agreed.
    Although, I must say that I am sick of every second word out of Stewart’s mouth being a swear. Beep isn’t what I’d call entertainment.

    @ gadgetgeek

    JIM CARREY I had heard of ~ Col-WHO?

    Thanks for filling me in though on the long ‘partnership’ between the corporation and the comedian. (And the Grammy audience would know about that, yeah?)

    IF lots of people had been accepting of the iThingy, then the ‘daughter’ (people have claimed she isn’t his daughter?!), her thinking: ‘Not cool’ MIGHT have been funny.. but as it is, with the Pad being WIDELY RIDICULED, claiming to be “cooler” than Jay-Z just made Colbert look a clown.

    For me, the greatest comedian the States ever produced was BILL HICKS

  • iFanboy

    I take that back.

    The greatest comedian the States ever produced was Rush Limbaugh.

  • iFanboy

    No i don’t!

    For me, the greatest comedian the States ever produced is still BILL HICKS

    {the 8:57 post is NOT mine}

    “Rush” Limbaugh means nothing to me. I’m not interested in the phony Republican/Democrat polarity ~ BOTH are owned by the same people
