The iMac could get a refresh next week according to a new report, which suggests that Apple is planning to update its computer line with faster processors and lower prices.
The report cites the same sources that correctly predicted the MacBook Air update back in April, and goes on to suggest that the iMacs might include Thunderbolt 2 ports, and that they will arrive later in the week than the Tuesday release day usually used for new Apple products.
Just like the MacBook Air upgrade, the new iMac will supposedly increase the processor speed of each standard configuration by 100 MHz using several new processors, including the 3.3 GHZ i5-4690, 3.5 GHz i5-4690, and 3.6 GHz i7-4790 for the 27-inch model, along with the 3.0 GHz i5-4590S and 3.2 GHz i5-4790S for the 21.5-inch model. These improvements will also be accompanied by a welcome reduction in price — something previously predicted by KGI Securities Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo as a way to help Apple grow iMac sales in foreign markets.
No sign yet of the much-desired Retina display-equipped iMacs though! It’s possible that Apple could wind up with two different subcategories of iMac, with Retina display models for high-end users and cheaper iMacs at a lower price point.
