The iPad is an Air-thin, 10.1-inch, multitouch iPhone

We’re still waiting for iPad details to come from the mouth of Jobs, but here are some first observations.

Like everyone said, it looks just like an iPhone that met a rolling pin.

It’s way thin. Like MacBook Air thin, from the looks of it. This is bread slicing and jugular slicing.

The Home Button is at the bottom, which implies, like the iPhone, a dominantly vertical based orientation, although an accelerometer flips it.

There’s a WiFi signal clearly visible at the corner, so we have 802.11n support here, but I see no icon for 3G… yet.

The iPad doesn’t have a frontal camera and Steve has yet to show any Magic Mouse like capacitive case tech, although obviously, this is a vibrant, 10-inch multitouch device.

  • iPhoneboy94

This is a big let down to me. A 10″ Ipod touch….. I think ill take my Iphone over this…

  • Snackhound

64 GB flash memory, thats pathetic

  • CraigMac

So what does this do that the Ipod will not?

  • CraigMac

    or the Iphone rather

  • ann

Ugh…people. It’s not called and “itouch”! It’s and ipod touch.

  • frank frubish

What a let down. This is pathetic in every way.

  • ann

This will go the way of the Newton.

Now I have to carry my laptop, phone, and this on trips? And what does this do that the other two don’t?

Things its missing that *might* have made it worthwhile…

    1. 3G connection
1a. If not that then 3G tethering over bluetooth with the iPhone
    2. Front Facing video camera for video chatting
    3. more local storage
3a. although it goes against Apples stategy memory card storage
    4. Some indication that it can be used to replace having to lug a laptop on business trips.
    4a. Cloud storage? (1)
4b. Cloud office suite ala Google Apps. (1)
    4c. others anyone?
    5. More use of bluetooth.
5a. bluetooth with the magic mouse (1)
    5b. and a real keyboard. (1)
    6. A third pary will develop this shortly but it would have been nice…a stand so that you can prop it up and not have to hold it in your lap all the time when watching a 2hour movie or trying to write a document.

    (1) I believe all these *may” actually be possible, but that should have been part of the focus.

  • Pat

    couple additional thoughts…

    7. should have remote desktop of your mac. Then at least you wouldn’t have to carry two laptops.

    8. Is there an iPhone app that completely replaces the iLife suite?

    9. What type of connections does this support? I would want to be able to use it to control my presentation from it.

  • Pat

ok I jumped the gun and will wait till the presentation has ended before further critiquing it.

  • iFanboy
