Pegatron has reportedly received orders from Apple to start production on the iPhone 6. According to Taiwan’s Industrial and Commercial Times, the supplier will be producing around 15% of Apple’s upcoming 4.7-inch handsets, ahead of their launch in September.

If true, this would seem to confirm several previous reports. For one thing, it indicates that Apple will indeed be splitting iPhone 6 orders Foxconn and Pegatron. Both Foxconn and Pegatron have been competing over Apple orders recently, with Pegatron doing its best to use aggressive pricing to undercut Foxconn, which has long been Apple’s biggest manufacturing partner. If the new report is to be believed, Apple’s orders with Pegatron (across the iPhone 6, iPhone 5c and iPhone 4s product lines) will reach 50 million units in 2014 — up 40% from last year.

It also might indicate that production of the rumored 5.5-inch iPhone 6 handset is indeed significantly delayed due to a setback, as had been reported previously.

So far, we’re expecting both iPhone variants to sport a new design with a much thinner profile, elongated volume buttons, a relocated on/off button, and rounded corners, along with performance improvements.

Which (if any) out of the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch will you be buying?
