Realmac’s Clear adds reminders — finally

By

Clear, everyone’s favorite swipe-based to-do list app, now integrates with the native Reminders app on the Mac and iOS. Originally planned for February, the latest update lets you get reminded to do things on that list.

It seems pretty incredible that a list app can not only survive but thrive without any way to set a reminder. Now, at last, you can do this, and any reminders are synced between Clear instances on all your devices.

Importantly, Clear doesn’t work with the native reminders app, so all your todo reminders are stuck within Clear itself.

The rest of the app remains the same, with the quick swipe-based navigation, but adding reminders is pretty lame. Instead of a cool new swipe gesture to quickly add a time or date, you have to tap a tiny “Add Reminder” label to get to a date picker that, while customized, works the same way as the built-in time picker.

So I wonder, again, what is the point of Clear. IOS’ own reminders app isn’t very smooth to use, but it works with Siri, which makes adding reminders a breeze, and you can use one of a zillion apps to view the lists. They also sync between macs and iOS machines, and it’s free.

Oh, new (in-app purchasable) sound packs have also been added to this Clear update, for customizing task-completion sounds.
