In New York on May 20? If you are, own an iPhone, and fancy drumming up some business for local bars, you may want to get involved with the so-called “BeaconCrawl.”
An interactive bar crawl event, supporting venues in lower New York hit by 2012’s Superstorm Sandy, BeaconCrawl will use iBeacons to help gamify the experience of staggering between drinking establishments, getting increasingly legless.
Beacons will be installed in the sponsor venues and at various locations along the way, guiding crawlers by way of on-screen instructions. In doing so, participants will receive special drinks, perks, challenges and information. Crawlers will also be awarded points for completing tasks — such as ordering food, sharing content via social media, and more.
“Pub crawls and pop-up parties are popular all over the world,” says Bill Aurnhammer, CEO and founder of event organizer Aurnhammer. “Using beacons, we’ve turned the traditional crawl into a scavenger hunt by combining the two ideas.”
The event’s app will be available for download in the App Store on May 2.
