Leo’s Fortune is one of the most beautiful iOS games I’ve seen in a while. But beyond its good looks, it also has an intriguing story, fun puzzles, and a ton of personality.

And I could stop right there, but then you wouldn’t hear about the cool physics and simple controls and the fact that the hero is a Star Trek Tribble with eyes like a Muppet and an undeniably amazing moustache.

This game basically has everything.

You play as Leopold, who wakes up one day to discover that a thief has stolen all of his money and run off, leaving a trail gold coins behind. And because one of the oldest and most time-worn traditions of video games is that you absolutely must collect all gold coins, Leo sets off in pursuit.

The chase takes him through a variety of environments that include physics puzzles, platforming, and even a bit of Sonic the Hedgehog in the form of high-speed traversal.

It will make you smile the instant you pick it up.

Your left thumb moves Leo left and right, and you swipe your right thumb up to make him inflate (i.e. jump) and down to make him dive. Your right-thumb controls also come in when solving puzzles. Leo can inflate to press switches and dive to build up momentum on diving-board-like planks.

It’s a fun game that will make you smile the instant you pick it up. Plus, Leo is inexplicably Russian, and that’s just straight-up awesome.

The Good: Great puzzles and graphics, and tons of personality. And that moustache. Seriously.
The Bad: The rankings after each stage might require unreasonable amounts of skill and precision for touch controls.
The Verdict: Play it. It is fun and cute.
