Like any good Apple product, there isn’t too much publicly confirmed about Jobs — the forthcoming movie about Apple’s late CEO, penned by Social Network screenwriter Aaron Sorkin.
However, the Academy Award-winning screenwriter did take a moment on Monday to shed a bit more light on the project, while answering questions at New York City’s School of Visual Arts for the Tribeca Film Festival.
Describing the script as “one of the very few times I ended up writing what I set out to write,” Sorkin noted that it will reveal both the positive and negative aspects of Jobs’ persona, as detailed in the 2011 Walter Isaacson biography, of which this is a (loose) adaptation.
At the same time, he repeated his previous view that this is not being a straightforwards “Jobs biography” — commenting that:
“It’s not a biopic; it’s not the story of Steve Jobs — it’s something much different than that. He’s a fascinating guy — part hero, part antihero.”
On the subject of recent rumors that Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle will direct the film (Cupertino Billionaire, anyone?), Sorkin refused to elaborate — saying:
“I don’t want to say that much tonight. I don’t want to make any news or make anyone feel like I approached the movie in a different way. I’m going to make the movie speak for itself. But he’s a fascinating guy surrounded by fascinating people, and he had very interesting relationships with the people in his life.”
Alongside rumors of Boyle directing, the name of Leonardo DiCaprio has been mentioned as a possible actor for Jobs himself. Previously it was reported that David Fincher and Christian Bale were in talks regarding the film.
Sorkin apparently finished the screenplay for the film back in January. He has previously stated that it will be made up of three 30-minute scenes, leading up to major Apple product launches.
Shooting is expected to take place this fall, although no release date has yet been announced.
