Sinkers has been out for a couple weeks now, but if you haven’t played it yet, you should.

It’s a minimalist puzzle game with two controls: You tap to remove all of the pieces of the same color that are touching, and you swipe up to “sink” the board and fill in the gaps from the pieces you’ve removed.

You have 20 moves to make as many points as you can. And that’s basically all you need to know, other than that this game is worth your time.

Sinkers
You can swipe to fill in all those blanks, or you can just keep tapping if you think you have some good moves left.

Sinkers also has an interesting strategic element to it because every time you make a move, the rest of the pieces on the board shrink. So you’ll think you have a great move coming up only to have half of the pieces you were going to use for it disappear.

And that’s just mean, but it keeps the game from becoming more than just another rote “match-___” experience.

This game is worth your time.

The game also limits the number of “sinkers” you have (i.e. the number of times you can fill in the empty spaces), but high-point moves earn you more.

That’s really all there is to it. Oh, and it’s free. So you’re officially out of excuses.

SinkersGame Name: : Sinkers
The Good: Simple, fun, surprisingly strategic gameplay with a nice visual style.
The Bad: Sometimes, 20 moves feels like too many for the quickness this game suggests.
The Verdict: It’s a cool, quick, interesting game that is more than just another matchy thing.
