9to5Mac: Everything You Wanted to Know About The Tablet But Were Afraid To Ask

Our friend Seth Weintraub at 9to5Mac has written a great curtain raiser on the upcoming tablet. His lengthy posts covers everything you ever wanted to know about the tablet, including the likely surprises.

We especially like the way he starts by recalling the way Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone:

At the introduction of the iPhone, Steve Jobs touted that new device as a “Widescreen iPod”, “Revolutionary Mobile Phone” and “Breakthrough Internet Communications Device”.

I believe the same type of convergence thinking is going into the tablet. It can’t just be a “Kindle-killer” eBook reader. It can’t just be a “Media Pad”. It can’t be only a Nintendo DS or PSP competitor. It can’t just be a small NetBook-sized MacBook either. It has to be all of these things. At the same time. Say it together:

“The best eBook reader. The best Netbook. And the best portable media player and gaming device.”

DON'T MISS
Will the Apple Tablet be just an eBook reader?

Repeat.

Well worth reading the entire thing.

You know, I heard that iSlate will be like a gigantic iPhone 1G.
    What is wrong with apple?
Old iPhone 1G with bigger screen, same design, home button, better HDD, better graphic, and better battery?
    And that for $1000?
That is BS, unless that costs like $500, then that’s a different story.

    1. i agree with the quote.

    2. Seong-hoon. the whole $1000 is the most unsubstantiated rumor out there. it presumes either this is a total macbook killer (unlikely based on other stronger rumors) and/or that there will be a required 3g service which will bring down the price by $200-400 on a subsidy just like a cell phone. so $1000 is the ‘full retail’ (ie no contract but you still have to sign up with whomever).
on the flip, $500 might be the lowest possible price but don’t expect much by way of a hard drive etc. consider how pricey SSD is right now. a device that low in price might only have 64GB in it. for something with more storage, expect a price of $700-800.
then again, with all the talk of the lala.com buy and such, perhaps you won’t need as much space in the device and can still have a huge chunk of your media available to you.
    we shall see
