It’s only been available for a couple of weeks, but iOS 7.0.6 already represents just over half of all iOS traffic.
The data was provided by Onswipe, a mobile publishing and monetization platform, and reveals that as of March 3, iOS 7.0.6 makes up 50.06% of traffic on all iOS platforms.
iOS 7.0.4 fell to 30.16% over that same period.
This is in keeping with Chitika Insights’ previous suggestion that the majority of iOS users would be using Apple’s latest version of the mobile OS by this point.
While Apple always pushes iOS adoption, much of the motivation behind this most recent update was the result of heightened media coverage regarding Apple’s “gotofail” bug, which allowed for secure web traffic over SSL/TLS to be hijacked by other people on the same network.
However, it does also show that iOS update adoption is gradually speeding up. In summer 2012, North American iOS traffic generated related to another security-related iOS update — version 5.1.1 — took close to three weeks to reach 58%. Based on Onswipe’s data, iOS 7.0.6 should hit this mark more quickly.
