Automatic is one of our favorite iOS car accessories and while we’ve been blown away how easily it can future-proof your dumb car, the smart dongle just got a lot more intelligent thanks to an update that brings IFTTT integration into the car for the first time.
Automatic can already track your trips and tell you where you parked, but with IFTTT recipes you can now let your car Tweet, post to Facebook, or send an email to your mechanic based on a set of triggers Automatic has created.
The new Automatic Channel on IFTTT exposes some powerful triggers, including the following:
- Ignition turned on
- Ignition turned on in a specific area
- Ignition turned off
- Ignition turned off in a specific area
- Check engine light turned on
- Check engine light turned off
- Trip completed
To get the ball rolling Automatic has created a slew of recipes, like logging all trips into Google Docs, turning off your Philips Hue lights when your car leave home, or calling your spouse if ever you park in front of a Nevada brothel.
You can also create your own recipes for situations Automatic hasn’t thought up yet, and more channels will be added to IFTTT to expand what you can do with Automatic too.
