Tesco Mobile has today announced that it is giving all contract customers in the U.K. 4G LTE services at no extra cost. They will continue to pay the same price they’ve been paying for 3G, but they’ll get significantly faster speeds in 4G areas throughout the country.

This is the same approach Three has taken with its own 4G services, while the rest of the carriers in the U.K. have chosen to charge customers extra for the privilege of 4G speeds. So, all you need is a 4G phone and a compatible SIM card.

This applies to both new and existing customers, and it’s available on “Anytime Upgrade” and SIM-only contract plans. Tesco offers data bundles between 500MB and 8GB, and you have the freedom to change those each month — so you can upgrade if you’re using too much data, or downgrade if you’re not as it suits you.

Some of Tesco’s 4G-compatible handsets include the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c; Samsung’s Galaxy S4, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy Note 3, and Galaxy S4 mini; the Sony Xperia Z1 and Xperia SP; and the HTC One. The supermarket chain uses O2’s network to power Tesco Mobile, so you’ll get 4G coverage wherever O2 currently provides it.
