IFTTT Now DMs Your Roommate When His Music Is Too Loud

I probably wouldn’t written anything about the new Netatmo Weather Station Channel on IFTTT, but then I saw one of the sample automatic actions that it can trigger, and figured I had to show you. Once set up, you can have IFTTT send a Twitter DM to your roommate when his music is too loud. Amazing.

IFTTT, as you probably already know, lets you do things with web services, based on triggers from other web services. So you can have any new Instagram saved to your Dropbox, for instance. It works with web-connected hardware, too, making this new Netatmo channel possible.

Triggers for this channel include changes in air pressure, carbon-dioxide levels, humidity, noise and temperature. And you don;t just have to send tweets. You could have your Philips Hue lightbulbs flash a warning if things get too hot, or to switch on the air-con if things get too sticky.

But I’m most impressed with the ultimate in passive passive-aggressive behavior, sending threatening messages to your roomy when he gets carried away in his music. All I need now is an IFTTT-connected device that monitors the level of dirty dishes and I’ll never have to talks to The Lady ever again.
