iBeacons are pushing to become the big new retail trend of 2014. The tech debuted last year with a demo by the MLB, before launching in Apple Stores nationwide as well as some Macys stores.  You can add American Outfitters to the list too as ShopKick announced this morning that its partnered with the clothing company to bring iBeacons to 100 locations.

ShopKick’s rollout of shopBeacons will be the largest iBeacon deployment in apparel sales since Apple added the feature to iOS 7. Apple’s iBeacon tech uses Bluetooth LE to determine your position inside a store to push location based notifications to your iPhone. Companies can then use your personal data to send targeted promotions and other information based on your preferences as well as other shopping choices.

The initial plan for the shopBeacons is to push a greeting to your iPhone when yo  walk into an American Outfitters, along with some overall in-store deals and discounts. Eventually the company says it will offer micro-location-based ads, like bargains on jeans when you approach the denim bar.

Other companies are experimenting with iBeacon rollouts as well, with the MLB planning to implement it at stadiums as well as Safeway and Eagle Market grocery stores which are part of inMarket’s first big trial in over 200 grocery stores.
