iPort Case And Stand Charges The iPad From Any Direction [CES 2014]

CES 2014 bug I love everything about my iPad Mini’s Smart Case but for one thing: I can’t use it with the BlueLounge MiniDock, a super handy little charging dock.

The iPort Charge Case and Stand won’t help there, but it will at least let me charge the iPad while it’s inside a case. It’ll even work in landscape orientation.

The case slides over the iPad in two parts, covering the bottom of the iPad completely once it’s in place. You now have two charging points – one on the bottom edge and one on the side – which consist of a pair of tiny metal contacts. You then charge the iPad by dropping it into its docking station, which touches these contacts.

The dock itself is movable, so you can set the angle of the iPad by yanking the base, and – in pictures at least – the whole thing looks very slick. There are even channels in the case to reflect the iPad’s speaker output to the front.

The price? $100 for the mini version, $120 for the iPad Air and fat iPad. Which is fine, as long as you don’t mind adding a chin to your iPad, and never using another case again.
