Braven’s new BRV-Bank is a ruggedized backup battery for your mobile devices, with some very neat/curious additions: It has Bluetooth, for one, and it can be remote controlled from your phone. WTF?
The BRV-Bank is like Braven’s Bluetooth speakers, only without the speaker. Like it’s portable speakers, there’s a big battery inside, a Bluetooth radio, and the ability to control the speaker from an app. But unlike the speakers, it plays no music, ands the app is used for switching the unit on and off, and for monitoring the battery level.
It’s a clever idea, especially when you think that it really is a speaker-less speaker. But that’s not it. The battery is “IP68 water-resistant and MIL-STD 810G shockproof rated,” and it comes with a matching flashlight that plugs into one of the two USB ports.
Speaking of USB ports, these run at 2.4 Amps for iPad charging, and the unit itself comes in 6000 mAh and 8000 mAh flavors. Take this with you on a camping trip and you’ll be set.
The BRV-Bank should be on sale soon, just as soon as the folks at Braven recover from CES.
