The Yahoo! Sports app just received an update, bringing the interface more in line with iOS 7. The company also added a new feature to the app–Loops–which will let you and thousands of other sports fans create short animated gif-like clips of your favorite moments in sports.

Nothing says “I’m a super sports fan” than a carefully crafted photographic meme, complete with wacky motion and large outlined text.

These aren’t actually animated gifs, but Yahoo! wants you to think of them as such.

“Loops provide a new way for sports fans to easily capture, transform and share their favorite sports moments, right away or later on,” said Yahoo!’s Brian Mead over at the Yahoo! Sports Tumblr. Think of Loop as an animated GIF, with captions, effects and comments added to memorable moments in every game.”

The universal iOS app lets you follow all your favorite teams and games with custom alerts and reminders for important sporting events. It also lets you keep an eye on breaking sports news and read editorial stories from the writers at Yahoo! Sports. There are detailed pages on players and teams with season stats, rosters, schedules, and even info about fantasy sports.

And, now, Loops. They’re only available on the iPhone as of yet, only while on Wi-Fi, and only for select games. You’ll record your clip from the game page on your iPhone, and then you’ll be able to add text and then share to Facebook, Tumblr, and Twitter.

Sure, it’s a bit silly and kind of limited, but if you’re a big sports nut, you’ll surely have a ton of fun with this new update, which also includes a new iOS 7 look ad feel, several bug fixes, and feature improvements.

Yahoo! Sports is available now in the App Store for free.
