It was back in the good old days of 2012, that we reported that Apple’s App Store had received more than 1 million submissions.

Well, it took between then and now for that number to mean that there are 1 million apps currently live.

Of those, 413,000 are optimized for iPad (either universal or iPad specific).

Overall 1.4 million apps have been approved by Apple to date — compared to the 1.17 million approved for Android, versus 881,000 which are live.

Of course, those numbers mean nothing if the apps are low quality or fall into similar categories (which Apple’s quality control has been pretty good about avoiding), but it is a significant milestone regardless.

Look for Apple to make an announcement soon.
