Second Gear, maker of the popular iOS text editor Elements, has announced its next app, Photos+. Pitched as “the best way to manage photos on your phone,” Photos+ looks like it’s trying to take on Apple’s default Photos app.
The app has been submitted for approval in the App Store, and it looks promising.
Second Gear is saying that Photos+ will be better for managing photos in albums—a process that is currently a little tedious in iOS 7’s Photos app.
Photos+ shows off your photos and albums with big, pretty thumbnails and full-screen views. But with a tap, you can also show detailed EXIF info and a map view showing where, when, and how each photo was taken.
There’s also support for animated GIFs, and photos can be shared via email, Facebook, Flickr, and Twitter. The app will work with your iPhone’s local photo library and cost $2.99 at launch. The simplistic grid layout in the above screenshot looks nice.
If you’ve been dissatisfied with Apple’s Photos app, Photos+ looks like it may be the remedy. You can sign up to learn when the app comes out on Second Gear’s website, and we’ll have definitely have more to say about it in the near future.
