Scrub Music Tracks Forward And Back At Any Speed With iOS 7 [iOS Tips]

Music App Scrubbing

There you are, listening to your favorite song, when you just want to get to the good part. So you look at the Music app that’s playing that favorite song, and you wonder, “How on earth am I going to scrub through the song to move to where I want to?”

In iOS 7, the visual upgrade gives us a red line in the track being played. You can definitely tap, hold and drag that red line along the track for some high-speed scrubbing, but what if you want to move along the track more slowly, or have a more fine-grained approach?

Here’s how to do just that.

Once you tap and hold the red line, you’re ready for action. Feel like scrubbing at high speed? Simply move your finger back and forth. You’ll see the words “Hi-Speed Scrubbing” appear under your digit, and the red line will move quickly along the track.

If, however, you slide your finger up a bit on the screen, the scrubbing speed will change to Half-Speed Scrubbing and move a little less quickly. In this higher up position, slide your finger left and right to move the red line along in either direction.

Slide your held finger even higher, and you’ll see Quarter-Speed Scrubbing, which moves the red line even less quickly for more specific movement. Drag your finger even higher, and you’ll find Fine Scrubbing, which moves the red line through the track much more slowly, allowing you a much finer control than the other speeds.

You can do all of this while playing the track, of course, which will give you audio cues on where you are in the music track.

Thanks, Jason S.!
