Just as night follows day, death follows taxes and blissful sleep follows energetic coitus, so a new iPad is always followed by a new case. And for me that case might just be Grove’s gorgeous new Wood Smart Case for the mini and the new iPad Air.

The Wood Smart Case is made from maple (the back shell) and bamboo (the clever roll-up front cover). Like Apple’s own Smart Cover, the front rolls up to provide a stand in either lay-down or stand-up orientations, and it has cut outs and button extenders so you never need to take it out. Except to marvel at the thinness and lightness of the naked iPad I guess.

As cases go, this one is pretty gorgeous, and costs a reasonable $79 ($99 for the Air version). Want one? You’ll have to wait 4–6 weeks for it to be hand-cut and assembled at the factory in Portland, Oregon… So it’ll probably still arrive before your Retina Mini.
