Apple has today restored push email services on iOS devices in Germany almost two years after it had to be shut down following a legal battle with Motorola. The Cupertino company announced the change in a new support document, which explains how users can restore push services on their iOS devices.
Apple had to stop providing push email services to users in Germany in early 2012 after Motorola won an injunction against the feature for patent infringement. The ban meant those with iOS devices could not automatically receive emails within the borders of Germany, and they were forced to pull them manually.
Apple and Motorola are still disputing the case, but back in August, Apple won an interim decision that allowed it to restore push email services while the case continues. GigaOM reports that the company had to pay a hefty €100 million ($135 million) fee for the interim ruling — though that’s not as steep as it sounds when you have a bank balance as big as Apple’s.
“Push email service available for iCloud, Yahoo!, AOL, QQ, and NetEase users located within the borders of Germany,” Apple announced in a new support document today, which also details how users can restore the service on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
- From the Home screen, tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
- Tap Fetch New Data.
- Toggle the Push slider from Off to On.
