AppleCare+ subscribers can now get repairs and replacements for their iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches while they’re abroad following recent changes to the service. Subscribers were previously required to contact Apple in their home country, but now they can pop into any Apple retail store in territories where AppleCare+ is sold.
Apple hasn’t quite made AppleCare+ support available globally, then — you still need to be in a supported country that sells AppleCare+ — but it’s certainly a very nice change. It means if you take your iOS device on vacation and run into issues with it, you’ll be able to get it repaired or replaced at a local Apple retail store.
It also means that if you happen to buy a new iOS device while you’re abroad, you can also purchase AppleCare+ for it at the same time and you’ll be supported when you get back home.
Not all repairs and replacements will be possible in all countries, however. If you happen to break your CDMA iPhone while on holiday in Europe, for instance, you won’t find an Apple store that carries that model, because it isn’t sold or supported there.
The list of countries that now offer AppleCare+ coverage include Austria, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
