Apple Says Demand For iPhone 5s & iPhone 5c Has Been ‘Incredible’

I just wrote a piece about how difficult it is to obtain the iPhone 5s — particularly if you want the gold model — and Apple has now confirmed that it has completely sold out of certain iPhone 5s models in some stores. Demand for that and the iPhone 5c has been “incredible,” the Cupertino company said, but it’s yet to reveal just how many handsets have been sold so far.

“Demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and we are currently sold out or have limited supply of certain iPhone 5s models in some stores,” an Apple representative told AllThingsD.

It’s likely those models that have already sold out are silver and gold ones, which are proving incredibly difficult to get hold of all over the globe. The flagship Apple store in San Francisco had just 20 waiting to be sold this morning, and all of them were claimed before it even opened its doors.

Meanwhile, shipping estimates on the Apple online store have now slipped to 7-10 business days for the silver and space gray models, while those who are adamant they want gold will be waiting until October.

Supplies appear to be better for the iPhone 5c, which is still shipping in 1-3 days despite being made available for pre-order last Friday.

Apple hasn’t revealed exactly how many iPhones it has sold yet, and it’s hard to tell at this point whether demand is greater this year. It certainly seems it, but with no pre-orders for the iPhone 5s, we expected longer lines outside of Apple stores anyway.
