The Gold iPhone 5s Is Such A Success, Apple’s Making More To Compensate

The gold iPhone 5s seems to be a hit. After selling out so fast on Apple’s official website that ship times are now in October for all gold models, and the Chinese literally swarming to get their hands on one, Apple is bumping production of the gold iPhone 5s to compensate.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple has underestimated gold iPhone 5s demand:

Apple Inc. has asked its suppliers to increase production of the gold-colored iPhone 5S by an additional one-third after seeing strong demand, people familiar with the situation said. It isn’t clear whether there are currently supply constraints manufacturing the new iPhone.

I doubt it’s a supply constraint on the gold iPhone 5s model, or at least, more of a supply constraint than that which is afflicting the other models. This is the first entirely new color to hit the high-end iPhone line since the white iPhone 3G. It’s going to be popular just by dint of people wanting to finally try something new. Thoughts?
