First Two iOS 7 Game Controllers Teased By Logitech, ClamCase

By

Awwww, yeah.
Awwww, yeah.

As we noted earlier this week, iOS 7 includes some code that will allow third party manufacturers create universal controllers for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch using Apple’s latest mobile operating system. It’s groundbreaking stuff, especially for a traditionally game-averse tech company, but we’re starting to see the first wave of controllers to come out.

Above, you can see the first teaser image from Logitech, found over at the Logitech Gaming Facebook page. Reported by Jared Nelson over at TouchArcade, it shows an iPhone with Terraria on it, and an obviously missing controller as well. There are specifications for two kinds of controller for iOS 7, one that fits around the iOS device, and one that works separately. This Logitech image seems to point to a fitted controller, but we’ll see when it actually happens.

Weird, yeah, but kinda cool, too.

Additionally, TouchArcade reported on a GameCase device, made by iPad accessory manufacturer ClamCase. This is the very first iOS 7 controller we’ve seen reported, and it really looks…weird. There’s an official trailer for the case, which looks to be an odd combination of fitted and separate controller, over at the GameCase website. Check it out.

Chances are good that other companies, notably SteelSeries and Ion, are working on their own iOS 7-compatible devices, and we’ll keep an eye out on this space for you. We’ll also be sure to get our hands on some of these as soon as possible for review to help you know which ones are worth your time and money. Stay tuned.
