Boom Mic For The iPhone Lends Indie Cred To Home Movies

Boom! No, I mean it literally. This is a boom mic for the iPhone, although here is is pictured not on a boom but on the iPhone itself. Yes, for just $40, you too can make amateurish-looking movies where the mic dips into frame at just the wrong moment[1].

I guess that in theory, any mic is a boom mic as long as it’s you know, on a boom arm. The iPhone Boom Mic is a long snout of a thing that clips to your iPhone and plugs into the headphone jack. It has settings to be omnidirectional, or very directional, letting it pick out sound from whatever it’s pointed at.

And if you stick it onto a broomstick, say, and wear a pair of giant over-the-ear headphones, then you’ll totally look the part of the indie filmmaker, ready to shoot the next The Legend of Kaspar Hauser[2].

The mic is available now, without broomstick, for just $40. A small price to pay to look so professional.

  1. Rumor has it that Photojojo is working on a Spartacus digital watch to be used as a continuity-bending movie prop.  ↩

  2. Do not watch this movie. Trust me. It’s terrible.  ↩

So does the boom mic show up in the frame or not?

I think I’ll wait for them to come out with an iPhone dolly attachment.
